About the region - Kiso Lacquerware
The craft of making wooden bases using abundant Kiso Hinoki wood flourished during the Edo period under the protection of the Owari Tokugawa clan. In the Meiji era, the discovery of "sabi-doro" clay led to the creation of more durable lacquerware. Chopsticks made from Kiso Hinoki wood are lightweight and, due to the meticulous application of lacquer, are also highly durable. These chopsticks have a rustic yet exceptionally sturdy finish.
