How to Properly Care for Wooden Chopsticks

At our shop, nearly all of our chopsticks are made of wood, except for those made from special materials such as ivory, silver, glass, and titanium. Like lacquerware, wooden chopsticks can get scratched, and the coating may wear off over time. To ensure long-lasting use, please avoid cleaning them in the dishwasher. Using a dishwasher can significantly speed up wear and tear.

Also, avoid soaking the chopsticks in water for extended periods. A gentle scrub with a soft sponge is enough to clean them thoroughly. While it may take a bit more effort, handwashing and wiping them dry afterward will help prolong their lifespan.

Caring for Natural Wood Chopsticks: Restoring Their Original Color

As for chopsticks made of natural woods such as ebony or rosewood, over time, the natural oils in the wood may evaporate, causing the surface to turn white. If this whitening bothers you, you can restore the original color by rubbing a small amount of rapeseed oil or olive oil into the chopsticks using a tissue. When you do this, you may notice a brown residue on the tissue, but this is simply sap from the wood.
