About Wajima Lacquerware
Wajima lacquerware is widely regarded as one of the finest forms of traditional Japanese lacquer craftsmanship. Produced in the Wajima region of Ishikawa Prefecture, it is distinguished by its exceptional strength, meticulous layering process, and refined finish.
Each piece is created through numerous stages of preparation, coating, polishing, and decoration — a process that demands patience, precision, and mastery built over generations.
About the Artisan Workshop
These chopsticks are produced by a Wajima lacquer artisan workshop that manages every stage of production in-house — from shaping the wooden base to applying and finishing the lacquer.
This fully integrated approach ensures complete control over quality and craftsmanship. The workshop is dedicated to delivering pieces that embody reliability, safety, and transparency — craftsmanship where the maker’s care and responsibility are clearly reflected in the finished work.
About the Design — Shishin Hakkake
Shishin Hakkake combines two powerful symbolic systems rooted in East Asian cosmology.
The Four Divine Beasts (Shishin) —
Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise — represent the four cardinal directions and are traditionally believed to offer protection and harmony to the world.
The Eight Trigrams (Hakkake) originate from classical philosophy and express the fundamental forces and patterns that shape the universe — heaven, earth, fire, water, wind, thunder, mountain, and lake.
Together, Shishin Hakkake symbolizes cosmic balance, protection, and the harmonious order of nature — an enduring motif associated with good fortune and universal alignment.
