About Wakasa Lacquerware
Crafted in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan's leading chopstick-producing region, Wakasa lacquerware has been treasured for more than 400 years.
Today, nearly 90% of all chopsticks made in Japan are produced in this region. Inspired by the mysterious beauty of the ocean floor, artisans developed decorative techniques using natural materials such as mother-of-pearl, eggshell, pine needles, and rapeseed, layered beneath multiple coats of lacquer to create exceptional depth, brilliance, and durability.
The finely tapered tips—known as the "Crane's Beak" style—allow for precise handling of even the smallest foods while symbolizing longevity in Japanese culture.
