About the Origin – Tsugaru Lacquerware
Tsugaru-nuri, or Tsugaru lacquerware, dates back to the early Edo period. Each pair of chopsticks undergoes approximately 50 meticulous steps of repeated lacquering and polishing. Renowned for its exceptional durability, Tsugaru-nuri has earned the nickname “Baka-nuri” (literally “foolish lacquering”)—a testament to the painstaking effort and time required to complete each piece.
