About Wakasa Lacquerware
Crafted in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan's leading chopstick-producing region, Wakasa lacquerware has been treasured for over 400 years.
Today, nearly 90% of Japan's chopsticks are produced in this region. Inspired by the mysterious beauty of the ocean floor, Wakasa artisans developed unique decorative techniques using natural materials such as mother-of-pearl, eggshell, pine needles, and rapeseed, layered beneath multiple coats of lacquer.
The result is a finish that is both exceptionally durable and visually captivating.
The finely tapered tips—known as "Crane's Beak"—allow for precise handling of even the smallest foods while symbolizing longevity in Japanese culture.
