About Susudake (Aged Smoked Bamboo)
Susudake is a precious natural bamboo sourced from the thatched roofs of traditional Japanese houses (minka), where it was naturally seasoned by the smoke and warmth of traditional hearths (irori) for over 100 to 200 years. This century-long smoking process alters the fibers of the bamboo, turning them exceptionally dry, resilient, and rich in natural amber and dark chocolate tones. Due to the rapid decline of traditional thatched-roof homes in Japan, authentic Susudake has become an increasingly rare and highly prized material among master artisans.
