Located in Obama City, Wakasa is a major production hub responsible for nearly 90% of Japan's chopsticks. Wakasa lacquerware originated in the early Edo period when craftsmen of the Obama domain began depicting underwater scenes as motifs. Using materials such as eggshells, mother-of-pearl, pine needles, and rapeseed, they created chopsticks with a mystical and captivating appearance.
