Yakumo Lacquerware Camellia and Rabbit Chopsticks(Engravable)
This is a beautiful set of chopsticks featuring a design of camellias and rabbits. Camellias bloom around the time when the arrival of spring is announced and were used as talismans in the Heian period to ward off evil spirits.
Although it is said that the camellia flower falls, it is considered an auspicious pattern, making it popular for celebratory occasions.
About the Origin: Yakumo Lacquerware
Yakumo lacquerware is produced in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. The process involves decorating the surface with colored lacquer, abalone shell, gold and silver powder, or dried lacquer patterns, which are then coated with transparent lacquer. As time passes, the lacquer becomes more transparent, allowing the intricate, vivid patterns to emerge and giving these pieces their distinctive beauty.
